The Burford font family, a layered typeface inspired by good old vintage signage and advertising.
Seattle based type designer Kimmy Kirkwood started to work on this type family while traveling through Europe. He says he was mesmerized by all the unique lettering showcased throughout the five countries he visited. Back in the states, he started to digitize his first sketches. During this process, he realized the typeface would fit perfectly to be expanded as a complete layered type family.
The Burford font family comprises several layering fonts including base layers, top layers, bottom layers, and 2 sets of graphic elements. All individual layers can be combined in many different ways by building on top of each other. In addition, each font comes with a set of Stylistic Alternatives for the letters A, C, E, F, G, H, P, Q, R.
Kimmy Kirkwood also published a basic package of the Burford family for people who don’t have access to premiere design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc. Each font in this package can also be used on its own without the option of lettering.
The Burford Extras set includes banners, borders, corners, arrows, line breaks, catchwords, anchors, and many more. All fonts and included graphics are based on a nice vintage inspired style of good old vintage signage and advertising.
