The original Georgia typeface has been designed in 1996 by Matthew Carter in cooperation with Tom Rickner. In 2010, the typeface received a major update by Monotype and The Font Bureau. The result is Georgia Pro, a high quality font family that brings the elegance of a classic serif to the modern club of on-screen typefaces.
The new Georgia Pro font family serves as the perfect serif companion to the sans serif screen font, Verdana. It’s definitely one of the best serif faces for reading on screen. Georgia’s open forms ensure great legibility also in small text sizes. The new Pro family has been extended to 20 fonts in total consisting of Georgia Pro and Georgia Pro Condensed, each subfamily includes 10 fonts ranging from Light to Black plus matching Italics for each weight. This beautiful serif typeface has been equipped with numerous OpenType features such as ligatures, small capitals, fractions, old style figures, lining tabular figures and lining proportional figures. To access these typographic features, an OpenType-savvy application is required. As already mentioned, the whole family works best on screen.
